Vegan Eating Challenge

I am currently half way through an experiment with my diet.  I am attempting to eat only vegan foods for 30 days.  I’ll have to admit the biggest challenge with eating vegan is that it is very difficult to go out to eat.  I never realized before how limited the menu options are for vegan eaters–if there are any options at all! I have certainly been eating at home much more and planning out my meals more carefully so that I have leftovers for lunch the next day.  I am collecting recipes and posting them on our Cook’s Delight Soup Base website under a...

Speciality Soups Review from Food Produc...

As a manufacturer of soup bases, I know the benefits of using bases in food flavoring applications.  Every once in a while, I stumble upon an article that confirms what I know, which is nice. In this months Food Product Design Magazine, there is an article on Specialty Soups that discusses, in detail, the role of soup bases in specialty soups.  The article mentions the Malliard Reaction in meat bases which “causes an enhanced meaty flavor and umami taste. When people think of chicken broth or stock, they first think of chicken soup.  But, Chicken...

Lean Marketing and Social Media Tips

On October 4th, I was lucky enough to participate in the Crain’s Small Business Week seminar on Netmarketing – Mapping Marketing Strategies.  The panel consisted of Lisa Leiter from Crain’s Chicago Business, Adam Keats of Weber Shandwick, Mari Laungrath founder of Foiled Cupcakes, Jeff Ringgenberg partner at Evolyte and Michael Samson co-founder of CrowdSpring.  The group was diverse in their area of expertise and offered valuable information. The Lean Marketing approach that they discussed is a benefit that smaller businesses have over large companies....

The USDA Food Pyramid in Plate Form R...

The USDA has created a new “food pyramid” that is plate shaped.  In my opinion, the plate is a better option than the pyramid because everyone can relate to the plate.  They have a website called ChooseMyPlate.gov that provides a visual graphic of the new food suggestions along with some very useful information. Of the many links on the website, one that is particularly useful to individuals is the Daily Food Plan link.  Each individual can go to that page and add their personal information.  It will even tell you if your are above the healthy range for...
